  1. When you hit puberty, all bets are off!  You sometimes end up with a very small range - temporarily - and a real disconnect between what you HEAR and what you sing.  You are not tone-deaf - you are just growing.  You must have experienced that in your wrestling, too - growth spurts, times when your agility, coordination, and strength did not quite match.  Perhaps you were *lucky* - you got thru it OK, and hardly were affected.  Did you  know anyone who did NOT make the team - because by the chance of nature, their skill did not line up at the right time?  Lucky you - unlucky them.. Same deal for singing.  Anyone can be taught to wrestle -within reason - and can be taught to sing - within reason.  I have taught vocal music to MS and HS students since 1971 - I have had a few tough cases in my time - but EVERYONE can improve.  Think of a box: we do exercises for RANGE (height), ENDURANCE (width) and PROJECTION (depth).  You get those 3 dimensions - you are starting to make a big sound.  NOW we have something to make into higher quality.

Join chorus.  Most choral teachers will be THRILLED to have another male!  Do the basic exercises there, and see if your school has a Voice class - or ask the teacher for extra help!  I bet you asked you wrestling coach for extra help -plenty.

I wish you much luck.  My son is now 28 - 6'1", 230 lbs, black belt - and teaching choral music like his parents - and married to another vocal teacher.  EVERYBODY has a story of how they got there - the tougher the struggle, the more you will stick with it.  Some people, if things come to them too easy, are the first to quit - you know that!  I wish you much luck!   (BYW, one of my vocal students graduated this year here in NY state - very high rating nationally in wrestling - 5'8", 240 pounds - went to big competitions in No. Dakota, I think . . .wrestling scholaship to college.)

  2. Of course. When I was a freshman in high school, I couldn't sing for **** but I took choir and soon enough I learned all about solfege and I learned how to read music and sing the pitches of the notes. It may take a while(it took me about a year) but in the end you'll feel really good about yourself.

Some people are born able to sing because it's in their genes. To tell you the truth, I don't know if that's the real answer I just took a guess at that one but most talents are passed on from the parent.

  3. i feel you, man.

i'm 15 and a girl, and can't sing for all the money in the world =[

but i've been told you can learn. so if you want to really bad, go for it man! ;D
