Sure, as long as they are an employee and not the owner, they'd be covered for unemployment.  Someone who is self employed isn't covered, though.

Of course.  But unemployment benefits have a maximum payment amount, so it may not be any where near what you are used to being paid.  My sister was making just over 100k a year.  When her position was eliminated and she filed for unemployment, she received the max.... $420 a week.
