I have a two-in-one question here - just don't tell yahoo

For school, says: Need USB Port 250/Flash Drive, Jump Drive (No U3 USB)

First: Can someone tell me the difference (if there is one) between a jump drive and a flash drive?

Second: I don't know the first thing about Flash or Jump drives. Can someone recommend brands or tell me brands to stay away from?

Just to note, teacher said no U3 because they don't work well with the school's computers for some reason.

Thank you.

  1. i haven't had a bad stick yet

  2. U3 is a file system put onto the USB/Flash device.  The toolbag above that said Sandisk and then tries to get you to go do something if he helped you did NOT help you.  I have a Sandisk cruzer right here and it had the U3 system on it.  It can be removed by someone with the knowledge, but it is worth just buying a different brand.  When you're looking at the package that it comes in, make sure it doesn't say U3.  The U3 system loads a virtual CD drive for "security" and runs an application on there in order to establish the connection.

Flash drives have so many different names because of all the different brands out there.  pen drive, flash drive, thumb drive, jump drive (Lexar's name), etc. but they are all the same thing.

  3. 1) Flash and jump are different terms for the same thing.

2)I've had success with Corsair and Kingston brands.

U3 is annoying software that comes pre-loaded on some drives.  Stay away from it.

  4. jump/flash are the same

    use sandisk
