Question:

Can someone with a less than perfect discharge from the Army join the Coast Guard a few years after

My voluntary discharge from the Armed Forces, three years ago was a clean one, just not on very friendly terms. I made allot of enemies and rocked the boat during the process and angered allot of people in high places. Yet my record is clean and I'm a good little puppy.

I'm thinking of joining the Coast Guard. Is this possible? Will my previous military enemies follow me?

  1. They can't follow you.  All the Coast Guard will be looking at really is the honorable discharge.  It is possible for you to join the Coast Guard.  Good Luck.  Love honey

  2. "less then perfect discharge" - that is not an official stance.  You should have a name along with an RE code with it.  EXAMPLE: Other then honorable, RE-3.  Everything hings on those letters.

  3. Stay civilian if you want to keep on living!

Senior NCO's busted down to CPL's?

    not in the U.S.forces!

frankly, I think that you are full of **** with your tall tales!

FYI: WE in the Military have our own "network"!

It won't be hard for the Coast Guard to find out that you are a dud!

  4. Patrick makes a great point.

    apply and go for it

  5. What's your RE number and what was your 3 letter discharge code?

  6. The Coast Guard has the strictest recruiting standards.  They won't take anything less than an Honorable RE 1 discharge.

  7. Have your DD-214 in hand and call a recruiter.  This is not the best place to get good advice.

    1 877 NOW-USCG

  8. Do you honestly think that the Coast Guard cares that "You made enemies" in the Army?

Do you honestly think that the corporate memory of the military complex holds you in such high regard that they have put you on some type of list?

If you have an honorable discharge.... nobody cares.  The only thing the Coast Guard will know about you is what is on your DD214.

  9. the only thing they will look at is your RE code and characterization.  if it is a 4, you will not be getting back in.   if it is a 3, you need a waiver, and the CG grants few waivers.
