Question:

Can someone with car speaker knowledge tell me which of these are better? And what certain terms mean?

Please only answer if you know what you're talking about...

The 3 speakers I am comparing are here:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-hUk1faIKwUg/cgi-bin/prodcomp.asp?g=400&compareitems=2068KS5250+2068KS690+158GT6935A&hidesimilar=y

Which one would be the best. If you think they ALL suck, give me the lesser evil.

I don't know WHAT to look for, other than price, at this point. I like that the two had rebates, and the other one was just another comparison. Also I'm not a hardcore sound junkie, I just want stuff that isn't gonna break in a year. The reciever is a totally decent Panasonic that I got in 2003.

They need to basically withstand years of moderate-high volume, with a lot of bass, techno, and Linkin Park / Rob Zombie-ish music (obviously they'll take more abuse than your average classical music fan).

What does RMS Power Range (Watts), and Peak Power Handling (Watts) mean? Can you tell me what the difference is between a high and low number

  1. If you have a Radio to Speakers setup, any of the speakers will work just fine.  there will be no real difference in performance.

If you have a Radio to Amplifier to Speakers setup, get the most RMS rated speakers that fit your budget.

As a general rule, as long as you are buying a Known Brand Name in car audio, the products will be well made and last a long time.  My personal Speaker Choices from brand name is in order:

    1.  Pioneer

    2.  Kenwood

    3.  Alpine

    4.  Sony

    5.  JVC

    6.  Clarion

    7.  all the rest like fosgate/kicker/audiobaun/etc.

  2. The Sony are the best of those for your application. They can handle more power and have a wider frequency range(25-30k Hz) which means it can produce deeper bass and higher highs than the others.

RMS power handling is the average power it can handle over an extended period of time. Peak power handling is the most it's rated to handle at one time without blowing. (BTW, volume doesn't blow speakers, distortion does.)

Also, you should check what size you need. Of those 3, two are 6"x9" and one is 5 1/4".

  3. i would go to hooked on tonics .com and get a just one 12 inch  kicker l7 at 2oms and a 750.1 kicker amp  all you need is just one sub for good bass that will last thats and its  not to loud   .. i been pounding one for 3years now every day  with no problems and im thinking about going and getting the 08 model cuz i love them so much... the amp runs at 750 watts  rms and the sub runs at 750 watts  rms  there a perfect match  ...

  4. the kicker is the better brand name but the sony can handle mor power but you don't need to worry about that unless you are going to hook up an amp to the an if you want something to last both will do but the kickers ar the better deal and will probly last longer

    check out my sysetm

  5. ONLY pay attention to the RMS rating on your speakers, sources, amps, and any other audio equipment. Peak power means virtually nothing to anybody. Out of these speakers, I would go with the pricier Kickers. Overall, the best speakers out there are Infinity, Polk Audio, and Alpine; some other brands that I consider good but would not choose first include Rockford Fosgate, JBL, JL, and most others on Crutchfield. Remember, only the RMS ratings matter. If you want more bass, I would recommend a subwoofer. Blaupunkt is easily the highest quality and highest powered subwoofers that you will find for cheap. Seriously, the vw1200 handles 1200W rms for $99. And I can tell you from experience that they are quality subs. Good luck!

  6. RMS is the wattage tht those speakers are goin to b running at continuosly, the peak power is wht it will hit at the max power given to the component. get the sony gt those look the best out of them all hope this helps
