Can someone work out a percentage for me please?

I'm pretty good at basic maths but I need help to know the following;

If a bill increases from £76-82pence to £113-32pence, what is the rise as a percentage please?

Ok you need to take the higher number: 113.32 and divide it by 76.82

You get 1.4751

Now times that number by the difference between 113.32 and 76.82

113.32 - 76.82 = 36.5

Now times 1.4751 by 36.5 and you get 53.842. And that's your answer

= 100%(£36.50/£76.82)

= 100%(1,825/3,841)

= 182,500/3,841%

= 47 1,973/3,841%

So you need to know what percentage 36.5 of 76.82 is

36.5 / 76.82 = 0.475

0.475 = 47.5%

I'm shocked that so many people can't work out percentages. Come on people, your answers are terrible! I say 47.5%. Work it out backwards once you have the answer, this way of working a percentage is easier. That way you'll know if it fits.

76.82 + 47.5% =

76.82 / 100 = 0.7682

0.7682 x 147.5 (the whole amount plus the percentage you're adding on) = 113.32

It fits.

You can also do 113.32 / 76.82 = 1.475

1.475 into a percentage = 147.5%

147.5 % - 100% = 47.5%

£113.32 - £76.82 = £36.5

£76.82 / 100 = £0.7682

£36.5 * £0.7682 = 28.0393%

P.S. as I understand, we're talking about the rise in percentage of the original sum, right?
