Im 15 years old and live in a very small town inside of small towns also. There is absolutly nothing for the youth because we have no money but our town gives money for stupid stuff that we dont really even need. I wanna get people together and raise money on my own for things that they can build or put up for the youth. The problem is im not sure on how to do that. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do? How I can get to the mayor if I have to ask him about it. What are some good fundraising ideas. How can I get people in the community to help out and to donate? If anyone knows Id really appriciate it if you'd help me out.

Thanks.

  1. First, you need to gather some youth together to ask them what it is they really want from the city, what they feel would be the biggest benefit. These same youth then need to talk about what THEY will do to support whatever it is they want -- will they work various jobs and give the money to this effort? Will they commit a certain number of hours every week to make it happen? How will they ensure that whatever they end up with from the government and other donors won't be destroyed, or won't be a huge financial burden to the city?

You need to finalize your goal, and then approach adults -- your parents, teachers, government officials and leaders of communities of faith -- to see if they will listen and endorse your plan *in writing*, and will help you approach the appropriate funding bodies with your idea. You need to find a nonprofit organization in your effort who would be willing to be your "fiscal" host (accept donations on your behalf).

And then you need to create a plan to reach your goal. You don't do any fundraising or ask for any donations until you've done all of the above.

  2. Hello,

    I've recently tried a company called fundraising2u.com

they sell internet discount cards very unique item.

It worked out well for our group.

    You should check them out.

  3. How about a Talent quest get the locals to pay $5 or $10 dollars to watch the grand finaly. Everybody loves a talent quest you can't go wrong. Hope I helped.

  4. Talk to the other youths work out what you want first skate park, play equipment bike track etc whatever then go to your local council your parents should be able to tell you where that is.

Ask to talk to someone about it tell them your ideas and see what they have to say about it. They may even help with fundraising. If they blow you off write to the council, if you still get nothing get a petition going of youths and adults (adult signatures are very important councils listen to them coz they vote and pay taxes).

once you get some sort of green light start fund raising. go door knocking for donations have a fete in the park etc.

  5. First off, good for you for wanting to go do something.

Second, don't go for "the money" - go for items that help you accomplish a specific goal.  Companies don't like giving money, but they'll give their stuff away more readily.  For example, if you were going to build a playground - go to Home Depot or a similar hardware store and tell them what you want to do - then ask them to donate some of the wood, nuts, bolts, and other stuff you'd need.  Also, people want to know what they "get out of it" - so people in a community are more likely to help out if they can both see the need you're addressing as well as the benefit, either to them or to somebody(s) they care about, like their kids, or folks who are homeless.  Other ideas:  sporting good stores for a basketball backboard/hoop, or ask the local power company for their old telephone/power poles and use them to outline trails on a local park (if you're really ambitious - use wood chips from the trees that the town had to chop down on the trail paths - or shredded recycled tires.)  Keep thinking, and maybe you can build picnic tables or benches for that park, too.  How about posting the rules for frisbee on nearby trees, and marking out a field?
