For those who want to know why I ask; I have been seeing some strange lights in my neighborhood which I caught on cam and continue to do so and have posted on LL where one of the people commenting said that it was possible that what I was seeing might be due to this phenomonem. Here is the link so u can see what I am talking about:

  1. I don't see how.  What did you have in mind? I mean, are you writing fiction?

  2. The light producede by a star cluster so far overwhelms any light

it might possibly reflect as to totally obscure it.

\We do see even single planets by reflected light.

(Only planets in our own system are visible to the naked eye.)

Some nebulae reflect enough light to be faint 'naked eye objects'

    from earth.

  3. Any such light originating from objects at tens of parsecs away, first gets swamped by surrounding star light that are million times brighter, is indistinguishable from the latter light.

Even otherwise such a light by the time it reaches Earth is too feeble to register on the retina, if it is not attenuated by the atmosphere. That feeble light must be above the noise level at the retina so as to be registered as a 'point of light'.

  4. No-- just too far away, However, Betelgeuse a super giant star in Orion is just about due to EXPLODE-- maybe tomorrow-- maybe in 100 years???

When it does explode it should be visible in the sky DURING the daytime, and will probably cast a shadow at night.
