Question:

Can static cling produce light if seen at nighttime?

Last night I fell asleep in my robe (which has horrible static cling). When I woke up in the middle of the night, I took the robe off, and I swear I saw green sparks of light accompanying the static cling. I told my husband this morning, and he said I was dreaming. I haven't been able to find anything online (videos, etc) so now I think maybe I did dream it. Any help?

  1. yeah that happens to me and my blanket if i rub it together idk how it works though

  2. You bet it can. Static is what you hear when little sparks of static electricity jump from one point to another. In the dark you can actually see these little sparks. It works best if you wear flannel pajamas, or a flannel robe or any cloth that will build up a static charge will do :)  Static sparks are usually described as white or blue, but perhaps the color of your robe made them look green. Don't worry, it's nothing paranormal.

  3. Yeah like everyone else said it wasn't a dream. It happens all the time to me especially in the winter. Its the same as when you get shocked by touching something...only at night you can see it.

  4. no you were not dreaming, this can happen it has happened to me many times, i have a robe and it does the same thing some times i do it in the dark just to see the sparks of light.

  5. my cat creates a storm in bed every night...

  6. Next time you have a question like this..it's better to go to the Alternative Section on here...where you can ask questions that don't fit into the Paranormal Section.

Didn't the sparks give you shocks? ..or was it off of you by the time the sparks flew out?  I've never noticed that before. Must have been really dark for you to be able to see them. Glad the "smart guys" on here were able to give you some good answers. I'm  surprised "sparks" don't fly out of their brains..they're so smart!! lol

  7. It's natural and nothing to worry about. That happens with me too. It's just static discharge. Weird and pretty cool.

  8. You can see the electrical discharge. It's usually white though, not green.

  9. It sure can.  You should try sleeping in flannel pajamas in a bed with flannel sheets.  Turn the lights off and raise the sheets for a nice little light show.

  10. Yes, static cling can be seen at night. Sometimes when you have a thick blanket you can really see them good. You weren't dreaming, It happens.

  11. It's static discharge from there not being enough humidity in the home.

The color depends on other light sources, like an alarm clock that displays the time in green, or red, or white.

I've seen green, white, and blue electrical currents throughout the flannel sheets or on the blankets.

  12. yep you can see the tiny electrical charges off the static cling. Ithats why its called static ELECTRICITY. :)
