Can steel and aluminum cans be recycled together?

I have heard different things and want to know if the different metals can be "tossed" in the same recycling bin.

  1. the recycle bins for metals is meant for all different kinds of metals. For the sorting out of the different kinds of metals, ( in this case steel and aluminium), the workers will use an electro-magnet to separate the 2. Steel is magnetic


  2. yes they can be recycled... and different metals have different melting points for which they can be separated from same recycling bin...

    they are really easy to separate, with an electro-magnet.

    in our town, everything that we recycle goes into the same bin, and the recycler separates them.

    AND, pays the town $1m a year for the privilege, which he makes back on the aluminum cans.

  4. When they recycle cans they use a magnet to separate the the steel from the aluminum.  Aluminum cans usually have a deposit on them that you could get back, tossing them in with the regular steel cans is stupid.
