I'm looking into taking a step class for a good cardio workout, but I have large thighs already and I'm worried that step could actually bulk up my muscles.

  1. Bulking up has more to do with your diet than anything. Also, since you're a female, it will be harder for you to bulk up anyways.

  2. No, it won't. Step class is a cardio class.  Although it seems like a lot of leg work, because it goes for so long (my step class goes for an hr) it's more endurance training for your muscles.

Endurance training doesn't bulk muscles, just increases their ability to perform for a longer amount of time.  To not bulk up you would have to avoid high resistance leg work.  There are sections in the class where they'll do lunges or squats, but don't avoid them, just don't squat/lunge as far.  The less resistance the less bulk you'll get.

    :o)

  3. Step classes are great for toning.  The only way you will bulk up is if you do serious weight training.

  4. No, it won't. Don't worry about bulking up. Girls don't bulk up well because their bodies don't have good hormones for it. Well at least not enough of the hormone testosterone to bulk up.
