  1. Viewed isn't the right word, since they are much smaller than the wavelength of visible light. They can be detected individually, The charged ones are handled individually in particle accelerators. All or nearly all of Dalton's ideas were correct. We just know more detail now. Newtonian mechanics are still very useful. Relativity and quantum physics just extended them to extremes of scale.
