not in the gas tank i belive it is located in the under carriage

Chances are it is located in the under carriage it is really easy to locate the gas tank. Look then for the fuel lines and follow then towards the engine sooner or latter you will see something much bigger then the fuel line. If  you have a replacement filter to look at you will recognize the old one immediately.
