i've posted a question asking if swimming would help me to get ready for track but someone answered to me that it will help with the long distance part of track but it will decrease my speed in the sprints.

How is it this possible and can someone explain to me please.?

Also if swimming can also decrease my speed what other activities can also

  1. swimming should not affect your speed because swimming works out all your muscles. swimming is also a cardio workout that will help ur lungs and heart. when i was injured from my legs my coach would send me to do laps instead of run. so u dont get slower you need to practice both ur speed and endurance. swimming might cover ur endurance part but not ur speed. you need to get out there on the track and practice so u wont get slower

  2. i beilieve it's because the extra muscle might weight you down

    but seriously who cares

    muscle is good

  3. no it wont decrease your speed. But not working on your speed will decrease your speed, so if you're swimming instead of running then yes, but if you are swimming in ADDITION to running NO

  4. It will only hurt your sprinting because it takes time away from your sprint training.
