so a while back my friend who is with cingular has a blackjack and his phone began to freeze on him and he took it into the cingulair store still under the 1 year warranty and told him the situation and they decided to replace the phone for free. my carrier is t-mobile and i just upgraded my phone about 3 months ago. and recently my screen was broken. so i was wondering if its possible to take it into t-mobile and see if they replace it for free if its still under the 1 year warranty. if they dont take the phone with the cracked screen could i just mess the phone up more so that the screen is just black? and would they take it?

  1. Replacing a phone that was badly made is NOT the same thing as replacing a phone that's been damaged or abused.  Why should T-Mobile pay for your lack of responsibility?  Or do you just think it's OK to lie to get what you want?

  2. They will not replace your phone for free.  The warranty only covers manufacturers defects such as freezing etc.  If you had insurance you would only have to pay $50 for a new phone but you can't add insurance once its already broken.

It wouldn't help messing the phone up any more to try and hide the fact of the cracked screen.  There are indicators inside the phone for many things that can happen to the phone like water damage indicators and also indicators for the screen.  The cell phone screens are LCD displays so there are ways they can tell.

The workers at the store wouldn't be able to tell and they would probably take it from you but once the phone gets to the company and the look everything over, they will notice the damage.  They would send you a new one first before you sent yours out but once they see this damage they will charge you full retail price of that phone which is much higher than your upgrade price.  Depending on the phone that is usually $200-$500.
