  1. They can't. It will be like converting e.g. Nokia 3110 into Nokia N95 impossible

  2. No

  3. MOST TVS WILL STILL WORK - there have been a billion commercials about this.  The only TVs that will not work are the ones with antenna.  If you still have one of those it would be nice to upgrade anyway.

Regular TVs will still work, but if they're not High Definition, you just won't see the HD picture as clear as the new ones.  No big deal.

  4. It depends on what you mean by convert.  Remember, we are switching to digital.  HD is High Definition which is wide screen digital.  Not all digital TV is HD.

If you have an old style analog TV, you can add an inexpensive converter box that will allow your TV to display the new Over The Air digital signals.  They won't look any better than they do now because your set can't do any better, but you would still be able to watch TV.  The HD (wide screen) pictures would be displayed as either "letter boxed" (with the black bars on the top and bottom) or "center cut" (the extra on the sides cut off)"  You can apply for coupons to help defray the cost of the converters at http://www.dtv2009.gov .

If you have one of the older non-HD digital sets with the square screen, the set will receive the HD broadcasts, it will just center cut the picture.

Remember, if you have cable or satellite, they will make the conversions for you.

I hope this helps.  Please return and select a Best Answer from all of those submitted.

  5. Your question is too vague to answer. What would you like to do with your tv exactly?

  6. nope...so get a new one...

  7. There are converter boxes you can buy to use the digital signals.  go to answers@dtv.com.  You can get a $40.00 coupon off the cost of a converter box.  Limit two coupons per household.

As I've found out, the converter boxes don't work with all makes of TV's and mine are ten years old and they don't work with older TV's either.  So I will have to buy a new TV next year, an expense I really don't need.

  8. Absolutely!
