As 5HTP is connected with seretonin levels, and often addicts behaviour is about self medication to get the brain to higher seretonin levels (e.g. suger, cigarettes, alcohol etc.) can it be used when stopping these addictions. My freind tried stopping smoking too many times to count, and failed each time until she tried 5HTP and now hasn't had a cigarette for 32 years. Another friend was given 5HTP by his therapist, he was also an alcoholic and stopped drinking when he took it (afteryears of trying with AA etc. and failing). I know it only works on some people, depending on the chemical make up of the brain, but if addiction is about lack of certain chemicals in the brain forcing us to self medicate on substances that produce these chemicals, can using 5HTP replace this self medication? Okay so the 5HTP may become the new drug of choice, but isn't it better than the alternatives?
has anybody any experience of addiciton and 5HTP?
