  1. Sure. A lot of the tax preparers for the major tax preparation companies are part-time (seasonal) workers who get trained by the company to handle the more rudimentary tax preparation cases. These days, you can get up to speed pretty quick, because of the tax preparation software on the market. For special circumstances, basic tax preparers can then consult with an office manager or lead accountant in the office for help.

  2. Yes. That is the point of the class. You train and you are guaranteed an interview. Not guaranteed a job but they want to hire you. I enjoy. I am starting my 2nd season.

  3. Yes, but you have to pass the test at the end of the course.  You can't just take the class and expect to be hired.

  4. The H&R Block tax course is there recruiting tool. If you do OK in their course, you will be offered a part-time, entry level type job.

It is fun, in a way. I've done it several years, and several years also at Jackson Hewitt before that. It won't take the place of your day job, but it is a nice little supplement.

  5. Sure, that is how almost all of Block's tax preparers got started.  Almost all are in-house trained and that class you see advertised is the first class we all took.  Then every off-season you take more classes and gain more and more experience.  That's how I got started - and within 6 seasons I took the IRS tests and became an Enrolled Agent - which is an IRS certification that the IRS sees as equal or better than a CPA as least as far as tax accounting goes.

Taking and passing the class is not a guarantee of employment but they hire almost everybody that passes the class because Block is growing every year as the industry evolves.  Places like Jackson Hewitt are self-destructing through incompetence, mom-and-pop places keep proving themselves not keeping up with the laws, and more and more people s***w up their taxes trying to do their own with Turbo Tax and eventually figure out that paying a few more bucks to have somebody competent do them is better than a couple thousand dollar mistake or an unnecessary audit.

  6. Yes, it can lead to employment. However, that's not why I'm writing. I'm writing because I think you should take the course even if it will not lead to employment. Understanding how income tax works is something everyone should learn. This is a good investment in wise financial planning. The government will take more than a third of your earnings over your lifetime - you can't afford to be ignorant in this area.
