Can tape catch on fire?

I was wondering, can tape catch on fire? I taped the wires from my 360's power supply on to the wall. And, it's the yellow tape made of of paper. so will it catch on fire?

  1. Yes, most likely.

    However, for the tape to catch fire, the wire would need to become nearly incandescent, so no, it's not likely any such scenario would present itself - most modern electronic devices have fuses and other precautions to prevent such a thing.  

    If the power supply is UL listed, that's a pretty good assurance that the device was tested to ensure it properly handles short circuits and other risky situation.  

    There are tapes that are designed to be fireproof, but those are used in places where temperatures are expected or even intended to get up to high levels that would ignite or char conventional tape.   But you don't need anything like that.  


  2. Yes! but to be on the safe side, keep a bucket filled with water near by.

  3. The power wires should be insulated, so fire won't be a risk no matter what kind of tape you use.  If the wires are nicked, you will want to tape them with electrical tape, then you can tape them to the wall with the masking tape you are using now.  Good luck.
