  1. Yes,man is an intellegent living being than all living beings on the earth. Through technology he can avert the effects of global warming.

  2. The short answer is yes!

If, by technology, you mean alternative energy sources, there are plenty of these, we just need a serious commitment to them.

If you mean ways of counteracting what we are doing, so that we can carry on polluting, theoretically we can but it would be much cheaper just to switch to non polluting forms of energy.

The real problem is the lack of will among politicians, nationally and internationally!

I too note that Dr Jello seems to be coming on board.  There is hope for us all yet!

  3. No. All planets are warming at the same rate as the Earth as a result of higher Sun activity. Nothing we can do will change that.

  4. Sure can!  We've got stuff called air-conditioning...works great!  Not to mention:  Sunscreen/block, insulation, motorized fans, shades of all types, woven fabric, pressurized water distribution systems...the list goes on and on.

  5. It cannot prevent the 2C warming most experts expect. But it can prevent greater catastrophic  warming that is expected to happen if we do nothing.

  7. Wow.  It looks like Jello accepts the idea of AGW after all.

Anyway, alternative fuel and energy sources, as well as more efficient use of fossil fuels, definitely have the potential to greatly reduce CO2 emissions.  But there is the possibility that we are already past the tipping point, and even if we stop CO2 emissions completely, other factors could continue to drive the climate change.

  8. Absolutely,  the man-made portion anyhow as it seems we are into a natural warming period that is being amplified several times by CO2.  The free market is an amazing powerful force.  If the cost to the world is incorporated into the cost of business -- as a carbon credits program would do -- polluting companies would invest in new technologies funding by their ability to sell their credits that they would no longer need.  The problem with the free market is that is does not always include all costs, so put the costs into the equation and you'll get the new technologies.

  9. If climate change is caused by man made factors, then yes, technology can avert its affects.

If climate change is caused by natural processes, then no, there is nothing we can do with our current technology.

  10. Yes - If we get over our fear of modern technology and use nuclear power, we could cut co2 emissions 50%.

  11. no! many other factors contribute to warming besides man. The argument that claims that man contributes to warming via co2 emissions is completely irrelevant. why are we worrying about co2 when it only makes up only .03% of our atmosphere why not instead worry about water vapor which is also considered a greenhouse gas and much more prevelant in our atmosphere.
