I'm 16, and my mom has me in an online homeschool program, but Im not feeling it anymore. So, I've decided that I want to drop out of tis high school and register myself into a public high school. But I dont know whether or not my mom will register me(She doesnt like the prospect of me in a high school--but my younger brothers are!), so I was wondering if I could register myself? Plus, the homeschool that I'm in now cost 400 dollars a month, and I know she cant really afford it!So could someone please answer this for me ?!

  1. No, I believe you need a parent unless your 18. At my school they need your parent's signature, driver's license, and the parent has to be there to register you. If you want to go to public school you should approach her about it and tell her that you no longer want to do online schooling and you would like to go to a public high school. If you go behind your mother's back and try to register yourself it will probably end up bad.

  2. No, you can't until you're 18.

Sorry, but you really do need to go with your mom's authority.  Just because you're not "feeling it anymore" doesn't mean that you can sidestep that.

You need to talk with your mom honestly - it sounds like you haven't broached the subject yet - and go from there.  In the end, though, your education is her responsibility, and you need to abide by her decision.

  3. No, I'm sorry.  You cannot register yourself unless you are an emancipated minor.

You are quite a thoughtful person to be thinking of your mom's budget.  How about sitting down with her and having a quiet chat about your needs?

In addition, know that there are many ways to homeschool that do not require you to be in an online school.  You can homeschool though your district...you will get your materials for free.  You can unschool.  You can use only materials from the library and Internet.

  4. Not, they cannot unless they are a emancipated minor./

  5. sorry but you cannot. I think you should try asking your father. if you can?

  6. I don't think you can, but to be sure you could call your public high school anonymously to check.

Just remember whatever you decide, you will still have to live with mom for a while longer and her choices for you, unless she will let you move in with "grandma" or "auntie".

    p.s. I am a mom of daughters 19 & 20, one homeschooled, one public.

  7. no hun you have to have a parent enroll you.

in the state of texas untill your 18 even if u live on your own
