Can tell the definitions for relief angle and rake angle? ?

  1. rake angle is the angle between the cutting edge of a tool and a plane perpendicular to the working surface.  relief angle is the angle on a tool after the cutting edge.  like on drill bits.  drill bit will not drill without a relief angle (cut).  machining 101.


  2. This is hard with words, so here's a picture.  Note that they are calling the relief angle the clearance angle, same thing

    The pic shows for lathe but the principle also applies to most if not all metal cutting tools, twist drills, end mills, etc
