Can the 40 GB Blu-Ray Player have upscaling for standard dvds? Is it a better blu-ray player than a standalone

hey...i am looking to buy a blu-ray disc player and I have read many reviews...some say that the PS3 is the best blu-ray disc player...I mainly want it for the films...Does the 40GB already come with the firmware update and does it upscale standard dvds?

whether or not it comes with the firmware is dependent upon the manufacturing date.  if not, it's easy enough to download and install it.  and yes, all blu-ray players upscale DVDs.  hope this helps.
