  1. ANY aircraft that can be fitted with bomb racks and ordinance, and be given the equipment to punch off said ordinance, can carry LGB's. And I mean ANYTHING from Spitfires to Boeing 777's, as it is merely the delivery vehicle for the payload of ordinance. The bombs, however, need to fitted with the proper guidance packages (steerable fins, and a laser receiver) in order to receive the laser return off of the target.

So, if you load up your trusty Scooter with a couple of 500 pounders with laser guidance packages on them, and have another aircraft (or some ANGLICO, FIST, or forward observer teams on the ground) illuminate your target with a laser designator, you to will be able to put steel super accurately on target... With minimum collateral damage to surrounding objects.

  2. Yes, the A-4K Skyhawk could be equipped with GBU-16 Paveway II Laser Guided bombs.

  3. Yep if it can cary dumb bombs, it can. it only takes  the targeting program and the adapter fins and controls to mak it smart.

  4. Only the A-4F models and later (like the A-4K mentioned above) could carry lgb's.

They had to have the electronic gear installed

for the lgb's to be compatible.

Although it's a simple matter to modify a MK. 80 series

dumb bomb to a  laser guided bomb, the airplane

has to be able to communicate with the hardware.

The A4-F had a hump added to the spine

of the aircraft to accommodate ECM and targeting

    gear.

Skyhawk trivia - the main wing on the A-4 was smaller than

    the elevators on an F-14.
