Can the AVCHD videos files be edited by Pennicle Studios 11 software?

I am looking to by a new video camera and am reluctant to buy a HD camera with the problems i have heard with the AVCHD type of file

  1. I think Pinnacle Studio 11 is supposed to be able to edit AVCHD, but it failed in the one demonstration I saw.  Sony's Vegas Movie Studio can edit it.
