Can the Backdoor.Graybird virus affect windows vista?

yes it can so there is one of two things you can do.

1) reformat you harddrive only use this as a last resort.

2) do a system restore and go back a few days and see what you downloaded that might have cause you to have a gray bird

It is a Trojan that will give someone access to your computer. It is an older virus but it is best to remove it with your anti virus.
