  1. No.

The doctor is "private" employed by the cruise company and all services are chargeable.

  2. In every ship I have sailed in, the medical service has been private

  3. No.  The medical service provided on board ship is private.

  4. You are entitled to use your EH1C card for medical treatment in any country within the EU, if that country has a reciprocal agreement with the UK. You might have to pay for some treatment but you can recover the money when you return home.

On board the ship, if you receive treatment from the medical team, you have to pay for any treatment received.

Some of the treatments can be very expensive and you have to agree to pay the cost before you disembark. You can claim this money back from your travel insurance when you get home.

    So the answer is no.

  5. EHIC entitles you to the same health service rights as enjoyed by residents of the Country you are visiting.  That can vary between good (France) expensive (Germany) and diabolical (UK).  There is no national health service on board ship so your EHIC is not going to do you any good.  However, as soon as the ship docks in an EU port, you can obtain heath care on shore.

On cruise ships, there is usually a private medical centre.  You need to pay if you use it although this is normally covered by your travel insurance.  If you are seriously ill and the ship's doctor has to put you ashore, your EHIC will cover you once you land.

  6. If the vessel is flying under a flag of a European country you are entitled to use it.
