  1. You'll undoubtedly hear a lot of conflicting information (or mis-information) flowing about.  Before drawing too many conclusions, try and see who is doing the research.  There are some *very* large and prosperous companies who do not want anyone to believe global warming to be true as it could cost them dearly.

How much the earth might be affected depends upon how much the average *global* temperature (including the sea) rises.  I've seen folks state that it was very hot last summer (or very cold last winter).  The person stating that his/her area was very hot believes in global warming just because he/she happened to experience an unusually warm summer.  Likewise the person who experienced the unusual cold last winter cannot fathom that global warming can possibly be true.

Bear in mind that most of the change in global warming will be in the polar areas.  Already satellite photos have shown glaciers retreating in Alaska, Greenland, and other areas as well as retreating ice in Antarctica.

I will give you some links; bear in mind that some of the global warming advice has been watered down before being approved by our government to avoid causing any undue alarm (and, admittedly, the fact that we don't know exactly how much or how bad it may be).

    Here are some links:

You can find much more with a Google search.  Bear in mind that you will have to slosh through a bit and make up your own mind.  There are far too many folks who would rather make your mind up for you than to let you decide.

    Good luck!

    Best regards,

    Jim

  2. Past cycles happened, and studying them is how we determined that greenhouse gases are involved, after the sun starts the warming.  We simply are playing that "starting" role this time.

There is no alternative scientific theory for what else might be causing the majority of current warming other than greenhouse gases.  You'll hear "it's the sun", but that's false:

    http://journals.royalsociety.org/content...

"There are many interesting palaeoclimate studies that suggest that solar variability had an influence on pre-industrial climate. There are also some detection–attribution studies using global climate models that suggest there was a detectable influence of solar variability in the first half of the twentieth century and that the solar radiative forcing variations were amplified by some mechanism that is, as yet, unknown. However, these findings are not relevant to any debates about modern climate change. Our results show that the observed rapid rise in global mean temperatures seen after 1985 cannot be ascribed to solar variability, whichever of the mechanisms is invoked and no matter how much the solar variation is amplified."

"blaming the sun for recent global warming is no science-backed position anymore – it is deliberate disinformation. "

The history of the science involved is summarized here:

    http://www.aip.org/history/climate/co2.h...

As you read it you'll see most of the concerns expressed by the skeptics now, but they were due to incomplete knowledge 20 or 30 years ago and have since been resolved.  That doesn't stop special interests from replaying them to the public now to delay action.

Here are some other good sources of information:

The appearance in the U.S. media of a debate on the topic is completely false, funded by others who want to mislead us and delay action, just like the tobacco companies did.

Here's how phony industry-funded "news" is distributed to you:

"Objective viewers long ago realized that Fox News has a political agenda. But, when a pundit promotes this agenda while on the take from corporations that benefit from it, then Fox News has gone one disturbing step further"

Here's an interesting collection of articles which discusses how the U.S. media uniquely supports the false appearance of debate about global warming science:

    http://www.nieman.harvard.edu/reports/05...

There apparently is no data that disproves that the planet is warming, and there is no credible alternate theory (published in a peer-reviewed paper in a credible scientific journal) that explains why.

  3. Global Warming is real enough. AGW, though, is junk perpetrated by Algore and his buddies to seperate you from your money. But there is no Ice Age now. We are in a 10K year interglacial period. That's 'freakishly long' in historical context.
