Can the Marlin 30-30 xlr take regular 30-30 rounds?

Im getting a new deer rifle for christmas and really like this marlin xlr but I was wondering if regular 30-30 rounds can be used to.I dont want to use the hornady lever bullets all the time cause the price but would use them durring hunts and use regular rounds for target/pratice. All info would help.I was looking into the .308 express and I heard the cartridge might not be around for along time and it will be a while untill you can reload like 1-2 years. thanks in advance for the answers

Probably, but your best place to get that answer is from Marlin. Check their web page and info on that gun and cartridge, or ask the gunsmith at the shop where you bought the gun.

The 30-30 gun and cartridge were developed together to be used together

The new Leverevolution rounds are just an improvement but not a necessity

Stick with tired and true calibers let someone else guinea pig the new stuff

the XLR has a longer barrel and a shorter magazine, otherwise it is just like a regular 336

you can shoot the hornady leverevoluion ammo through a regular 336 and regular ammo through an XLR

It seems to me it is smart to have bullets that will extend the range of the old 30-30, but if you want a long range gun go for a bolt gun.  Lots of folks like the light, short, quick handling characteristics of a lever gun, well the XLR is the opposite of that.

Yes you can use regular flat nose 30-30 in the XLR just like you can use the hornady ammo in a regular 336c,ss,w.  The only differences are that they dropped the crappy microgroove rifling and added a few inches on the barrel to take advantage of the new ammos ballistics. It also holds one less round which, im just guessing, was to keep the weight down after the addition of the longer barrel.
