Question:

Can the Mexican airline or border patrol track down an expired FM3?

My son is a US citizen who is flying alone to the US and has an expired FM3 visa for Mexico. I never renewed it because we just had to go through h**l to get the visa originally. My husband has a valid FM3 student visa but my visa as well as my son's are expired. I was planning on telling the airline that I lost his tourist visa but I don't want them to pull up the information from a computer that he has a FM3. I understand that one can just go and buy another visa at the airport and I hope that the airline ticket officer tells us to go and get another visa for 40USD. I was wondering if anyone had information or has had to go through this. There is absolutely no stamps on our passports, we never were given any going on or out of Mexico. Help! thanks.

  1. Boy you have a dillema..........I would not lie and say he lost his tourist visa . The airline probably will not board him without it and send him to the local immigration office to straightn it out. The airlines w/n check his status - they are not set up for it. Immigration can but may not . Thats a big risk lying to Immigration and getting caught. Thats a nightmare I would not want to live !

I would visit Immigration . I know there is like a 3 dollar a day fine for overstaying your 6 month tourist visa so I would imagine there is a similar fine for overstaying your FM3.

I would almost just pay the fee / fine and call it a day.

The airline is going to send you to immigration - wether right there in the airport or in the town - you will have to visit. I'm telling you they are going to see him on the computer - no doubt. They will see his FM3 status - no doubt. They will ask to see his passport - no doubt.

I dont see any way around the fees / fines . How much - I heard 3 dollars a day ??????????

  2. they may ask to see his passport to establish identity but they may not ask to see his visa...he is after all, already in the country and they are not customs. but he will be in trouble if he is asked for a visa and cant produce one....not major trouble, but it will stop his travel plans until he has a new visa. best bet, get a new visa.....   unless, he can speak spanish and has a tan and can blend in.... i am mexican american and i show my passport to establish identity and i am never asked for a visa....then again, i can speak spanish.....and even though taller than the ave mexican, my handsome latin looks give me away!lol
