  1. the Queen can do what she likes....conventionally she doesn't mingle with the peasants on formal occasions....but i'd bet you she's been in the chamber...off duty........after all it is a royal palace....she owns it!

  2. She can, but she better watch her back because I heard that LeRoy was waiting for her with a debt owed to him for his services. Those tall hat dudes better load their mac10's and get ready for some Queen defence, ya heard

  3. Nic_ess

There is a Queen of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (If you want to say Great Britain that is fine as well but she is also our individual Queen as we are all individual countries as well as being part of the UK) Just like she is the Queen of Australia, Canada, New Zealand etc none of them would except you saying their Queen is the Queen of Great Britain she is their Queen as a separate title

  4. Only if she sneaks in through the back door and promises not to throw popcorn at people.

  5. no the monarch was banned after king Charles the 1st lost the civil war, so she sends black rod, to deliver her messages.

We don't slam the door in the Queens face!!!!

  6. Just to be pedantic, there is no Queen of England, and there hasn't been one since 1707. Although there is a Queen of the United Kingdom.

  7. Much is made of the protocol with which commoners behave toward royals.  This is one of the few examples of protocol which the monarch observes toward her subjects.

No monarch has (officially, anyway) entered the House of Commons since Charles I tried to arrest five members in 1642.

Was he technically entitled to enter?  Yes.

It has become a cherished prerogative of the Commons to challenge the right of the monarch's representative.  He may do so, with lawful authority.

The monarch does NOT enter the Commons for the State Opening of Parliament; she sends the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod ("Black Rod" for short) to summon the Commons to the House of Lords.

  8. Only the Lords.  By tradition, the Monarch doesn't enter the Commons as that's what sparked the Civil War.

At the State Opening of Parliament, Black Rod (I always loved Black Rod when I was a child), a servant of the Crown walks from the Lords to the Commons and summons the MPs to the other chamber.  He traditionally has the door slammed in his face as a show of political defiance and then all MPs walk the short distance to the Upper House led by the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition where the poor Queen is made to read out a preprepared speech, written by the Prime Minister's Office.

She is so good at her job that you can barely catch her gagging on every other word.

  9. No, she can't.  When Parliament opens, she can, but even then there is a ceremoney, where she has to knock so that the door can be opened to her.

  10. She can sit in the public gallery if she so desires!

  11. she cant enter but she could buy it with her vast fortune.....

  12. I've got a feeling she is not allowed to enter the Commons, as you suggest. It's a tradition dating back to our brief-ish spell as a republic during's Cromwell's time.

    Dunno about the Lords.

  13. No member of the Royal Family, nor any unelected members of the aristocracy can enter the House of Commons without the specific invite of the members of the HOC. That is why at the State Opening of Parliament, Black Rod is sent by the Queen to ask the member of the Commons to join her for her speech.

  14. If the Queen was to try and enter the House of Commons she would have to be physically restrained by the guards. I have spoken to the members of staff involved and they told me this is the case.

  15. Im pretty sure its

    Kingdom Hearts.

  16. It is a tradition that no monarch is allowed to enter the House of Commons. They can enter the House of Lords though. This prohibition dates back to Charles I- who was the last monarch to enter and on that occasion he had the Prime Minister arrested.

The tradition doesn't only exist in the British houses of pariliament. When the Queen vists any of the parliaments within the Commonwealth she can only enter the Upper House. The same goes for the HEad of State of other countries as well.

  17. Ah, the British and their customs!  100s of years old and stemmed deep in tradition.  No, the monarch cannot go into the house of Commons, only the house of Lords.  She attends the State opening of Parliament, and it is quite magnificent in it's ceremony.

  18. Yes she can once a year and when she approaches they slam the door in her face because she has to ask their permission (Its a strange old ritual but its basically to reinforce the fact that they are in charge of the country not her.)

  19. The one room in the entire United Kingdom that the Queen cannot enter by Law is the House of Commons. That is why the State Opening of Parliament is held within the House of Lords.

  20. No she can't.  She goes to the House of Lords and Black Rod comes and bangs on the commons to request their audience in the upper house.  It came about in the civil war with Cromwell.
