Can the Repair option of the Windows help solve the problem on "smss.exe" and "funny ust scandal.avi"?

My computer ran "smss.exe" and "funny ust scandal.avi" which seem to be virus. I used a program named "noob.killer.exe" and killed the task of smss.exe and removed the file "funny ust scandal.avi". The program informed me that the computer needs to be restarted. On its restart, it did not continued to start the windows. It just restarted and restarted. I loaded the Windows CD and chose repair instead of format. The files for repair were successfully copied but I was not able to continue to the setup as it will install the Windows. Is the setup next step for the repair? Are the files deleted or corrupted? Can they still be retrieved? Can the repair option of the Windows help solve the problem?

  1. Thats a right hand kerfuffle, that is.

  2. Boot from the XP cd, do not choose the first repair option, but after the F8 to accept the eula agreement choose the repair option. It will repair without loosing other files.

  3. Its a trojan. Better wipe out your hd entirely by reformat. If the repair doesnt work , reformat is the next best thing.

  4. Reboot without the CD, if it works viola, if not, when booting up press F8 and boot into safe mode, when it asks if you would like to use a system restore click yes and go back to a date before you deleted the files.

Do not delete the smss.exe again as it is required for windows to run.

If that doesn't work, you may need to format it, or copy the smss.exe file off the CD to the windows folder.
