Of course they can, even though the All Blacks are Favourites, any of the tope few teams can win against each other on their day.

These teams are Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, France and some would argue at this point Argentina and England

Not only CAN we win the World Cup, we WILL win the World Cup.

More importantly, NZ CAN'T win the World Cup.

They have been favourite in all 5 Cups, and only won the first one in 1987.

Why?

Not enough Kiwis in the team. Too many of the team couldn't really die for the jersey when the heat's on, because they don't come from NZ. Under pressure, the Pacific Islanders, who would kill for their own countries, don't really want to dig too deep for their adopted country, and so they don't win the big games. Hence, only one World Cup victory.

They peaked a year too early as usual, and the ability to choke hasn't been coached out of them as yet.

The Aussies, however, are building up nicely, and should peak on the day.

Poms are shot ducks.

The Yarpies don't travel well.

Frogs will be in the final against Australia.

Nobody else is in the frame.

Mate, they're the only team to have won it twice before - they can certainly win it again.

They will have to pull out some magic to roll the All Blacks in the first semi final  -  but the wallabies are certainly no strangers to winning high pressure tests against NZ.

Of course they can... any team could win the World Cup.  Australia has a better chance than most.  I dont think they will win it though.  

They seem to be basing all their optimism on the Tri-Nations.  If you take a closer look, they do not have much to be confident about.  Yes they beat NZ but it was at home and NZ were playing 6 days after playing in South Africa with the long flight in that time.  Every team in the Tri Nations cries about that travel.  Then one week later, they beat a second string Springbok team by only 8 points... a second string team that was only beating Connacht 3-0 at half time the other day.

Their form has been extremely patchy before that and all John Connolly's positional experiments have done is expose a huge lack of depth.  They still have a weak forward pack and one injury in the backs could send these guys home after the QF.

They only got a couple of key players... and you need a whole squad of good players to put on a good game. The AB's are all around. Dan is the MAN! If Wilkinson won england the cup in '03 Dan is the player everyone should be looking at right now. I mean I wouldnt rule out the possibilities of a hat trick win. But the forwards are real fat and cant do much to save their lives. South Africa is a force to be reckoned with. I might sure how the pool goes this year but im sure South Africa and the All Blacks are right up there.

It will be close. I like to think they can win it, but I wouldn't put the house on it. All I know is that I'm frothing at the mouth with the idea of all this rugby coming my way. The TV in the shed won't know what hit it.
