Question:

Can the White Sox win 2 big awards?

In my opinion - Quentin is the easy MVP. People say Hamilton, but would they say that if he failed in the home run contest? Quentin means more to his team - which is in first.

Also - Ramirez should be rookie of the year. He is an unreal fielder, and big time clutch at the plate. Longoria has nice numbers, but his injury stops him from winning this.

Can they win both these?

  1. Quentin probably is the MVP. Dan E -- you're right that the writers (who rarely ever get anything right) see the post season teams as having the MVPs, but that's wrong. If it weren't, then Derek Jeter would own 2 MVP awards.

  2. Morneau should be the MVP. The award usually goes to a player on a team that makes the playoffs.

  3. I think they should! Quentn has been the best player in the AL most of the year and Ramirez has been clutch!

    Go White Sox!!

  4. They won't win both and might not win either one.Alexei Ramirez should win ROY,but he hasn't got much nationwide press like Longoria has.Longoria also was projected to be where he's at,where Ramirez almost didn't make the team.I agree that Alexei Ramirez should be the winner - But probably won't.

Carlos Quentin is another story.I disagree with you on him being the MVP.And not only the league MVP,but the team MVP.Jermaine Dye has less power numbers than Quentin, but he has a better average and still has good power and RBI stats.JD has played steady all year and is in my opinion, more valuable to the team.Don't get me wrong - I think Quentin is having a great year.I just think without JD and his steady production  the White Sox wouldn't be in first place.

Neither of them will win, though.Josh Hamilton is baseball's feel good story of the year and will win MVP.I think he's a dirtball who made his choices to smoke crack, but he quit and now is a success story.America loves a story like that. Also,if you think because he is on a team that is at the bottom of the standings and shouldn't get an MVP - remember Andre Dawson?Last place MVP.

  5. Possibly ROY. He's #2 after Longoria who I think should still win it. Quentin is a great player, but he's not going to win the MVP.

  6. the home run derby has no meaning toward the MVP, but other then that i agree with you. Quentin is the MVP

i am a rangers fan, and if hamilton hadnt slowed down in the second half, and the rangers stayed in the playoff hunt, the hamilton arguement might make more sense, but right now, it is Q.

Rookie of the year, im not sure

  7. I agree with your choice of Quentin.  I've been saying all along that the success of his team puts him ahead of Hamilton (not the take anything away from the season Josh is having though).

As for ROY I still think Longoria will win it but Ramirez is closing in fast.

    Ramirez (15, 58, .307 in 361 at bats)

    Longoria (22, 71, .278 in 381 at bats)

  8. Nope.  Maybe 1, not both.

  9. If the White Sox make it to the playoffs then maybe both, but if they make it to the World Series then definitely.

  10. Hamilton is a former junkie who does not deserve my cheers. He made his own bad choices....

Anyway - Quentin is on a first place team. He leads in Home Runs, and is the reason the team is where they are (with Ramirez). Alexi is the best choice in my mind - even with a healthy Longoria. I say both deserve it.

I just don't understand why someone would say Quentin is not the choice. What has anyone done this year for their team more than the offense and defense of Quentin?
