Can the axis of your eye for a contact prescription ever change?

Or has it ever changed for you? The reason why I'm asking is because it was the same the past two years in a row and I went to a new doctor this time and he said the axis was different.

  1. Yes, cos the eyes is ever changing.

  2. Yes, it is entirely possible  , it happens often.

Depending on the strength of your astigmatism correction , there could be a tolerance of a few degrees in contacts also.

If you are changing brands of contacts this time, it could also be a cause for the axis number to change.

Or it could be just that he feels you will see better with the new axis compared to what the previous Dr. had found in his exam.

It really depends on how stong your astigmatism correction is, and how different the axis is now as to whether it is normal or not.

You will just have to trust him, until you have tried it and know if it causes a problem.

  3. Absolutely.  The axis is just where the astigmatism is.  It can change.
