Surfers don't spend much time on the sand. They need them for grip.  But wax can provide that.

Skim boarders run in wet sand constantly.

You can use the same booties as long as they don't wear fast from the sand and grit on the beach.  My brother never did skimming in anything but bare feet, for decades.
