  1. you will not have over drive but aside from that i see nothing dangerous about it, jut rap electric tape around one of them to keep the two form making contact.

  2. Best if you go to the ford dealership and ask them about it ?

  3. The default position for an auto tranny is that overdrive is engaged unless you push the button to turn it off.  As long as the o/d is not turned off (there would be a indicator light on your dash) then there is nothing to worry about.  If,  however, the o/d is stuck off then you would need to get it fixed as you would be running at high revs on the highway and using excessive gas.

  4. Yes, in fact I've considered taking my overdrive button off and just connecting the wires to each other so my overdrive is always on and I can use an aftermarket shifter. The overdrive being on wouldn't affect my performance at all since my transmission doesn't shift till the redline anyways when floored so I'd have to be going over 100mph for overdrive to kick in and my car and stock it shouldn't hit over 90 in the quarter mile.

As far as I know the overdrive button on all cars works just like a light switch, you flip it or push it and it makes or breaks an electrical connection.

  5. Better fix them. No overdrive = excessive fuel consumption, higher revs. when in top gear.
