Question:

Can the coach?

My partner plays Rugby union in a pub team and the coach is doing a few things I didn't think he could do.

He is 1, coaching from the sideline and 2, going onto the field other than in half time or full time.

Is he aloud to do this?

By the way we're in Australia.

  1. if he does this during the game i dont think that it's allowed. but im sure if it isnt the ref would tell him to get off the field etc..

  2. It would all depend on the level of seriousness in the game, for starters.  A friendly comp., where fun spirit is the main aim would relax the rules accordingly.

To answer your question, the only people allowed on the field are the players during play.  When there is an injury, trainers and again, in a 'social' game, coaches would be allowed as well provided they are caring for the player.

The coach cannot enter the field to give instructions, or talk strategy.  The captain must do this.

Coaching from the sidelines is perfectly acceptable.  You are allowed to yell out orders, how else would you make substitutions?
