Can the converter box be connected before 2/9/9? How many channels will be received?

Yes, you can connect  a digital converter box before Feb, 09.  Most if not all of the TV stations already have their digital transmitters on the air.  They're not going to wait until the last minute.  You should receive everything from the converter box that you receive now.  

Some people say they don't get all the stations, but that's just because they're using rabbit ears or another poor antenna.  If you have any problems you might need to get a better antenna.

It certainly makes sense to try it now and make sure it will work properly before all the analog stations are shut off.  

You will probably find that you get  a better picture from your converter box than you do from the analog signal.  I do.  It looks really good.
