Can the digital tuner in a VCR act as a converter box for analog tv?

I want to keep using my VCRs after the changeover. A DVR would not fit my situation. I get my signal thru rabbit ears & currently have analog tvs. Would it work to get a VCR with a digital tuner & watch tv through the VCR to get the digital channels? I mostly tape shows & watch them later.

  1. no it wont ..i work for cable i know ..i get ppl like u everyday ..stop  being  old fashion

  2. Yes it will. Provided it is a VCR with a proper digital tuner (how old is your VCR? check the manual to see if it really is digital).  This will pick up the digital signal, decode it and pass it on to the TV.

But if you really want peace of mind, just try it, as soon as there is a digital signal in your area (chances are there is one already).

The other solution would be to connect the digital converter to the input of the VCR. The problem would then be that you could only record the program that the convertor is tuned into.

  3. Yes it will, if the VCR has DTV written on it. But you'll prolly also need an RF converter because newer electronics do not output to channel 3/4.

  4. Most likely no. Very few VCRs exist with digital tuners. And they would be way more expensive than one of the converter boxes.

You'll need to get one of the digital converter boxes. Try one of these:

    Zenith DTT900

    DigitalStream DTX9900

    Insignia
