  1. She has a better chance than many of the fillies who have run in the Belmont  in the past.  She's certainly bred to relish the distance and her races against the girls have been outstanding.  There are some very, very tough boys in the race.  I would have liked to have seen her regular jockey Garret Gomez get the mount, as the Belmont is very much a jockey's race.  It is also worrisome that trainer Todd Pletcher told both Gomez and Velasquez that he did not plan to enter any horse only a few weeks ago.  Anyhow we'll know all the answers on Saturday!

  2. Rags picked on a sub par group of fillies in the Oaks, and in California this spring, She has a pedigree to die for and the right running style, but she is going to have a hard time getting past Hard Spun and Curlin.  While a win in the Belmont would increase her value as a broodmare, the coolmore lads don't sell their foals or mares so it really is of no consequense, they will breed and race her foals the same if she wins the Mother Goose or the Belmont.  she'll be 3rd beat 4 1/2

  3. Rags to Riches is a half-sister to Jazil, who won the Belmont last year.  She's by A. P. Indy, which is another source of stamina as well as brilliance and class.  On paper, she has as good a pedigree to get the Belmont distance as any other horse in the race.

She's also a good-sized, robust filly, which from a physical standpoint stands her in good stead.  She comes into the race relatively fresh and she's been reported to have been training superbly.

While fillies tend to have a better chance of beating colts in the fall of the year, rather than in the spring and summer, there is no reason a filly can't beat colts.

Rags to Riches is owned by Michael B. Tabor and Derrick Smith, who are cohorts of the "Coolmore Mafia."  These are not people who are novices to racing, or who are likely to succumb to "Classic-itis" or who want a horse in the Belmont simply for the thrill of it.  They are professionals who are going to be thinking both about how this race affects their filly's value as a broodmare, and how running her in this race will impact the remainder of her 2007 campaign.  I have to believe that they feel she's got a real good shot at winning or they wouldn't put her in the race.

I think that whether she's a good shot to win the race depends on just how good Curlin turns out to be.  We still don't know if Curlin is something special, something with Hall of Fame potential, or just a very nice horse.  If Curlin is REALLY good, then the filly is running for second place, IMO.  But the only way to find that out is for her to run against him.

  4. maybe! i don't really know though, Curlin is my big boy and thats who im ruitin for.

i think that Rags does have a lot of potential to beat the boys but Curlin will not allow her. I mean, did u  see Curlin in the Preakness!? I know he won by a photo, but he came up so fast, and with ease! (so wut if he needed the whip, he got up there!) lol

so i can't wait to see how this race turns out, but i don't really know how it's gonna shape up. i still think my boy Curlin will get the field!

  5. Yes I am a boy and I believe that on a horse it could defiantly happen!!!!!!

  6. every single time!!!!

  7. there's a chance she can. if curlin and hard spun get into a dualing match and get somewhat tired, theres a good chance that rags to riches can come up from off the pace. but if curlin does the same as he did in the preakness its going to be a tough one! this is certainly a race you do not want to miss!

  8. I think Rags To Riches will run a good race and come in third.

  9. 3-1 , whatever, a lot has to do with the weather and the track conditions and the jockey. The mood of her too. You can say yes, but I raced growing up and it doesn't always go according to a humans wants...good luck if you bet on her.

  10. Of course she can, if she has a good trip. She is talented and all she needs is racing luck.
