Can the groom be held accountable for the charges of a wedding if at the last minute he runs away drunk?

the groom drinked during the whole time went through the pictures fine.Then his mother shows up takes pictures with the family.she tells him to come with her and leave so he does..leaves at the last minute. he should have to pay $8,000 to the brides family for damages and really should have to pay for the brides broken heart. what makes it worst is she is carring his child ..is their anything that can be done legally ?
