i need another outlet in my room and i am thinking of running a heavy duty electrical wire (about 25 ft long) through my window an into my bedroom.. my question is. is if it is safe to leave the wire running around the back of my house when it rains? does anyone know whether the outdoor wires you usually use for electrical edgers, blowers, etc. can withstand the rain while it is being used?

  1. It is unsafe and a code violation in the US.

  2. normal electrical extension leads are useable but its not legal by auustralian laws for permanent wiring in a house hold to be flex and the std minimum size is 2.5mm ext leads are nomaly from0.75 to 2.5 ave 1.5mm  and would cause you insurance problems if you had a fire if its all one piece with out damage to the outer or inner insulation  your ok for rain, sun light will make it go brittel and may well lead to cracking then it will short out or electricute you or someone lese which is not a good thing

  3. the UV radiation from the sun will destroy the plastic that surrounds the wires. so you can use it very temporarily.
