Can the intercom feature on the Panasonic Dect 6.0 phones be used as "Walkie Talkies" without phone service?

I want to use this phone system or something like it in a remote area with no phone service. All I need to be able to do is call handset to handset within a 400' to 500' range, kinda like walkie talkies without all the noise.

Yes you can. Just page or call the other handset. However, it wont be as far as 400' if you are indoor. The advertised range is measured outdoor without interference and visible obstructions.

It would be wiser however to use a walkie talkie (GMRS) with lesser cost.
