I will be receiving a package on the 10th which I need urgently but I wont be home until 5:30 PM which is probably after the mailman has left, it will be a large package so he will need to come to the door and have someone to get it, however if I leave a note on the door to say leave the package by the door can he do that? I don't want to go to the post office to get it or get it later.

  1. They can, but will they?  They are not required to leave the package, and it depends on entirely on your mailman and how the package was sent.  If the package requires a signature, then no, they will not.  However, even if the package does not require a signature, some mail delivery personnel are reluctant to leave packages in a less than secure area.  Is your area secure?  Leaving an important package on the porch may be dangerous in some areas as the package may be stolen.  Consider instead asking a neighbor who may be home to accept the package (or an apartment manager or condo representative) who can keep the package safe for you until you get home.

  2. yes with a signed note he should be able to leave it , or deliver it to a neighbor and get it signed for if thats needed. just include neighbors addy on the note so he knows where to drop it off.
