Can the mothers of the bride and groom wear a pant suit in the wedding?

My mother or my future Mother In Law don't like dresses. Would it be tacky if they wore pant suits?

My wedding will be in June of 09 and it will be an outdoor garden ceremony. My bridesmaids will wear short summery dresses.

  1. As long as they are tasteful it won't be tacky. just make sure they don't show up matching.

  2. My mother wore a pantsuit to my wedding.  I don't think I've ever seen her in a dress...  It's is totally fine!

  3. We would be talking about an evening wear pants suit not something you would wear to work right?  if it were made of a proper material and design that would suggest a festive and very special occassion Ido not see why it would not be OK. Nothing says that they must wear a gown.

  4. Why, of course they can, my dear.  There are some absolutely stunning pants suits that are so comfortable and so very elegant.  The most important thing is that the mothers be comfortable.  How lucky you are that both mothers feel the same way.  They can start setting a fashion trend for mothers of the bride and groom.  A nice linen suit, or one of silk could make a splendid hit.  Think about how they might accessorize too, with a retro/vintage hat, and perhaps a dangling necklace that hangs just above their cleavage.  Did I mention they might wear a silk blouse that has a very low cut and spaghetti straps.  After a few drinks, they can throw off their jacket, and dance the night away showing off their lovely cleavage in their new strapless corsette or brassierre which pushes up their bosom.  It sounds like a smashing time.

  5. Yes!

The only "prohibition" about the mothers' attire is that they don't dress in such a way that all eyes are on them instead of the bride. And seeing how everyone has come to see the bride, it would be pretty hard to upstage her. Pants are fine.

    Happy day to you!

  6. its your wedding of course they can!  my mother-in-law wore a pants suite in my colors.  i was fine with it and my mom wore a skirt and they looked fine together.  they might get a little hot, since the wedding is in june so you might want to remind them of that.  have a great wedding!

  8. I would say definitely! Especially because its a summer wedding and the bridesmaids are wearing short dresses...it seems like a nice casual affair. It seems like a great idea..and yes, they should wear what makes them most comfortable!

  10. Absolutely. Unless you have a grand, formal occasion, pantsuits are always appropriate, IMHO.  This is not the 1960s.

  11. Absolutely NOT....

I wore a three piece lined & beaded chiffon pants suit (pants, matching sleeveless blouse & long sleeved, knee length 'floater' jacket) when I remarried 2years ago.....

You can get gorgeous formal pant suit ensembles...very feminie and very, very pretty...so let the Mom's wear them...and I don't blame them, personally I hate earing dresses, pantyhose, yada yada..love the freedom and comfortable fit of pants and pant ensembles...good luck.

  12. I think that's fine. There are some really nice, and comfortable pants suits avaliable. I think that for a summer garden wedding, a nice flowy linen suit would be beautiful. If you're having a formal wedding, that might not be the most appropriate thing, but i know i would be more happy to see my mothe and my fil comfortable and enjoying themselves than worried about their dresses.

  13. Yes, they can certainly wear pant suits! There are some very beautiful summer pantsuits in light colors and fabrics that would be perfect. Some of them have short sleeved jackets or cropped pants that are great for hot weather.

Encourage them to wear whatever will make them most comfortable.

  14. It is not tacky at all. The mothers should wear what they are comfortable in. There are some really nice pant suits out there.

  15. of course its okay; she can wear whatever she wants. But I think a pant suit would not be tacky. I think it would look nice for them to wear pant suits, there are some dressses out there that would look way more tacky than a pant suit! Find a nice pant suit and the mothers will look Fabulous! :)

    congrats on the wedding!

  16. I hope it's not tacky because both of our moms are wearing elegant dressy pant suits. They are not comfortable in dresses and I certainly don't want them uncomfortable all day! I say to heck with tradition and do what's right for your moms.

  17. It's totally fine - there are LOVELY pantsuits out there -
