  1. Yes As I am a Network Administrator I Can, Yest Your netwrok administrator can see every fing your are downloading as most of the Ftp or http servers record logs regarding this.

  2. yes he can see your desktop by activating the remote desktop access from his computer---please dont do any unauthorized downloads or browse web sites on your office computer---you could be fired if caught!

  3. Yes, he can.

Most web servers and ftp servers log everything and every connection. He most likely can tell what you downloaded, when and to what system on the LAN.

If you were sucking a lot of bandwidth up, he/she might have said something already. However, you need to be concerned that the music files you're downloading may not be legally yours. In fact, they may not be owned by the person who posted them. That would cause the company legal hassles, and you would be responsible.

Other responders said "it depends." No, it doesn't depend. Even though he/she can turn logging off, you must assume he/she can see everything. I was a sysadmin for a number of years, and I NEVER turned logging off.

  4. My husband is a network engineer.  Depending on your network setup, they  may be able to see exactly what you're downloading, or they may have it set up simply to detect bandwidth usage.  If help desk tickets start piling up from people calling in to complain that the network is slow or bogged down, my husband starts checking bandwidth use.  One person hogging a lot of bandwidth is going to prompt a lot of behind-the-scenes talks, let me tell you!

You need to remember that the computer belongs to your employer and technically everything on it belongs to your employer.  Don't download anything that you wouldn't want your boss to see.  In fact, before you download something, you need to think about how you would feel if everyone in the office were suddenly able to see what you're downloading.

And you may have signed either an employee manual or a computer use policy when you started your job.  If so, you are bound by the policy.  If the employer's written policy says that you are not allowed to download files from the internet, you may not download files from the internet, period.  Doing so - and getting caught when the bandwidth use goes wild - can get you fired.

Just like in most companies, downloading p**n will get you fired.

On the company computer, don't ever download, upload, or type anything that can get you in trouble.  Just assume that someone in the company can see every site you visit, every file you upload or download, and every keystroke you make.  Better to be cautious and save your personal stuff for home, than to get fired.

  5. If he has the appropriate equipment inline, then yes.

you must not value your job if your downloading "lot of things" from the office.

  6. Depends on how tech savy your company is. Most of the time in bigger companies they can easily monitor all of that. Usually when the bandwidth of a particular computer is really high they check out what's being sent to it (ie. your music downloads). Normally they really don't pay much attention or care for that matter.
