  1. No.

  2. Only if you 1 break it .2 eat the Mercury.3 cut your self on the glass. Seems the green light bulb isn't so good for you. have a old bulb around,Cost less and is better for you.

  3. Are you talking about compaq flourescent bulbs, or LEDs?  Compaq flourescents have a small amount of mecury in them, but not enough where if one breaks it could do you any harm.

LEDs, which are a lot more efficient then even the compaq flourescent bulbs, are perfectly safe!  In fact they're probably in your computer, cell phone, and other electronics right now.

  4. Just don't eat too many of them at one time.

  5. no, if you eat tuna you would get heaps more mercury from your diet then from any smashed lights. some people get headaches from them because they flicker very quickly but it is very rare.

these new lights actually prevent more Mercury from entering the environment then they cause because coal power stations emit mercury and the energy savings (and reduced Mercury emissions.) of the new lights will offset any mercury in the bulb.

  6. yea i think so

  7. my mom has these in her recessed lights and it looks like a strobe light is going off.  It made me sick

  8. The new fluorescent light bulbs are all made in China by slave labor and contain mercury, and I would not be surprised if the outside of these bulbs are covered in lead.  Stuff from China is highly toxic and dangerous.

Now the US government, in another stupid move to sell out American jobs to Chinese communists, is considering banning regular incandescent bulbs in favor of these Chinese atrocities which give off bad light and which will save almost nothing in electricity.  Call up your Congressmen and give them h**l.

  9. CF bulbs themselves don't make you sick.

If badly-made bulbs and Chinese labor make you sick, you  can find compact fluor bulbs that are not made in China. For Mexico or Canada-made bulbs, look for Phillips brand.

If you suffer from SAD, and need particular light wavelengths to combat the depression, CFL lights come in several different spectra (wavelengths) from cool white through bright white to warm white.

The Sierra Club and the Steelworkers have been handing out CF bulbs.  I helped with the event in Pittsburgh (reference #3). The Sierra Club does top-notch research, and is very strong on the mercury pollution issue.

That said, I'm eagerly awaiting LED lamps; they are already available, and the price is dropping rapidly.  LED bulbs are currently running $20-$50 each, but they use <1 to 2 Watts of energy, and they last darn-near forever (100,000 hours, and darn hard to break).

Finally, incandescent bulbs are NOT being made illegal anywhere.  The legislation makes a particularly inefficient sort of incandescent bulb illegal.  Basically, it's "anti-wasteful-cheap-cruddy bulb" legislation.  If you want to get good quality incandescents--100 Watt included--you'll have no problem.

Right now I'm posting from Los Angeles, where we're having severe weather events.  That's for sure hazardous to health.  Here's to using less energy, and pumping less CO2 into the atmosphere!

  10. If they do, then we are all screwed in the near future.

I heard we have to switch to fluorescent lightbulbs in 2012.
