  1. There is warm grey & cool grey.  Personally I love warm grey & it can be paired well with other colors.  I have a darker, warm grey color on the walls of my home office & it look fabulous with the bright white trim (including chair rail)& black & white matted photos in black frames.  I also have a vintage dark red velvet chair & chocolate brown desk & bookcases & wood floors.  Surprisingly, it does not feel dark - believe it or not!  Chromatherapy is new approach to home spas with the idea that colors can effect mood.  There is pretty convincing research to support it.  Of course everyone is attracted to different things, so if you like it - go for it!

  2. in the case of grey, the furnishings have a tendency to stand out stronger, and become the focal point of the room. Yes, colors do set the mood and atmosphere. There are prizons where convicted murders are kept in soothing colors, such as beige and light blue and surprisingly, ornage to keep them non-violent. Dining rooms painted red encoutrage people to eat, yellow kitchen lend charm and warmth. vilet rooms tend to make people leave the area soon. dark forbidding colors, such as navy blue and chocoaplte brown are good for libraries, but terrible for sleeping in it is reported. Take a look at restaurant walls the next time you are out. Franchise places, and those that go for the high turn over rate of customers are always done in a shade which does not encourage people to linger over that 5th cup of coffee. High class places to eat usually have a sophisticated and leisurely atmosphere because they want you to stay and order another cocktail or two, and perhaps split a dessert.
