Can the police keep a car involved in a pursuit?

My car was taken without my permission and then the person fled from the police. Can the police keep my car because it was used in a felony case?

  1. Depending on the State, the answer is they sure CAN.

    Most States have statutes stating that if a vehicle is used in the commission of a crime, that it may be kept for forfeiture.

I saw it happen here in Vegas! co worker reported his vehicle stolen @9:29am the police have the record, it was later involved in a hit and run with bodily harm @4:56pm. that same afternoon. they had him come down to the hit and run dept. and detained him for questioning for two hours. They still have his car!

  3. Yes. As stated previously. It is evidence. Once the trial is over and the courts no longer need it, you can request that it be returned to you.  

  4. The car is being held as evidence. Once it is no longer needed, it will be returned.  

  5. Yes, because it was a felony case. Getting a lawyer would not help. A lawyer could not fight standard protocol.
